Dehumidifiers target the condition that supports growth
When indoor humidity is persistently high, lowering moisture can reduce the conditions that allow mold to thrive. That makes dehumidification relevant in damp basements and crawl spaces.
It does not remove existing contaminated materials or repair leaks.
Purifiers target airborne particles
A particle filter can capture airborne spores and fragments that pass through the unit. That can be useful after moisture control and cleaning, but it is not source remediation.
Filter handling also matters; follow the manufacturer’s replacement instructions and avoid releasing collected dust.
The building comes first
Find and correct roof, plumbing, foundation or condensation problems. Large or recurring mold growth may require professional assessment.
Use appliances to support the corrected environment, not to conceal an active moisture defect.
Use the same sizing basis across brands. Room-size claims can use different air-change assumptions. When possible, compare published CADR and calculate the airflow your room actually needs.
